Indianapolis vs Tennessee

It’s the biggest game of the season for both these AFC South rivals and arguably the biggest game of week 17. While the playoff picture can sometimes be complicated, this game is as simple as it gets – winner makes the playoffs, the loser goes fishing. The teams are evenly matched as their identical 9-6 record shows and both have made a late push for playoff contention on the back of a good run of results. The Titans look to be without Marcus Mariotta at quarterback and this will be a big miss and would see backup QB Blaine Gabbert come in to lead the offence which is averaging just 20 points per game.  The Tennessee fans will get loud to try and hinder the Colts offence and this has shown throughout the season as they have given their team a great advantage at Nissan Stadium – as the 6-1 home record shows. Running back Derrick Henry has 8 touchdowns in his last 4 games and seems to be carrying this team in their late push for the post season. If Mariotta struggles to play effectively then expect to see a heavy dose of Henry as he looks to pound the Colts and burn down the clock. This is the best chance the Titans have of stopping Andrew Luck, simply do not give him enough time to lead scoring drives and get off to a fast start. Luck has performed at an incredibly high level so far this year and is one of the main reasons the Colts find themselves in the hunt on the final week of the regular season. Two of his preferred targets – TY Hilton and Eric Ebron – are questionable for this matchup and if neither of them play this will limit the play calls that the Colts can run with offensively. Indy are averaging almost 27 points a game but their defence concedes almost 22 which will give the Titans some hope. We go with Andrew Luck to go for over 300 yards and confirm his ‘comeback player of the year award’ with a stellar winning performance. The Colts have been on a hot run of results recently and they haven’t come this far to then fall at the final hurdle. As an incredible side note – Andrew Luck is undefeated at 10-0 versus the Titans as a starter. Played ten, won ten – will that run come to a shuddering holt or will it continue into the post season and 2019?

Cincinnati vs Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh needs two things to happen in order for them to sneak into the playoffs via the backdoor this Sunday. One is very much in their hands – they need to beat AFC North rivals the Bengals at home. So far so good. But as the Steelers have stumbled their way towards Week 17, the Ravens have quietly made their way to the top of the AFC North and in doing so have placed Mike Tomlin’s team in the unthinkable position of not making the post season. Even more unthinkable is that all Pittsburgh fans  will be hoping that Baker Mayfield and the Browns will be able to beat the Ravens and complete the two results that the Steelers need to progress. A trip to Heinz field was once a feared way game for many teams, but Pittsburgh are only 4-3 at home this season and will need to keep up their end of the bargain by beating the lowly Bengals and hoping for the Browns to do them a favour. Ben Roethlisberger could be without his 2 most potent offensive weapons for the game, as both Antonio Brown and James Conner are questionable. With so much riding on the outcome of this game we expect that both players and staff will do all they can to ensure that they can take some part in potentially their final game of the season. The 6-9 Bengals have had a tough season and have appeared to be on a downward trajectory since the season ending injuries to star received AJ Green and Tyler Boyd. While Bengals quarterback would love to spoil the party in Pittsburgh he simply will not be able to keep up with the Steelers who ran the Saints very close in their last outing and were a fumble away from at least tying the game if not potentially winning. With a game of such important we expect Big Ben to get the job done in front of the Terrible Towel faithful. All eyes will be on Baltimore to see what the result is there and if the Steelers season ends in December.
